The Club Med Years
Since establishing itself in Villars in 1968, Club Méditerranée has occasionally used the services of the Swiss Ski School to compensate for injuries or absences of its own instructors.
In 1999, Club Med decided to entrust the Swiss Ski School with teaching skiing to its guests. The transition was gradual, and in winter 99, five Swiss Ski School employees lent a hand to Club Méditerranée’s French instructors. The following winter, the Swiss Ski School took over the reins, and some twenty instructors from the School began working at the Club. Frédéric Lauquin, Club Méditerranée’s current “Chef de Centre”, joins the Swiss Ski School to facilitate a smooth transition. Club Med customers (also known as “GMs”) were immediately delighted with the change.
The Swiss Ski School has grown considerably since the start of its collaboration with Club Med. Until last winter, up to forty instructors supervised the Club’s ski, snowboard, and snowshoe groups every week. They appreciated the good buffets and friendly atmosphere, of course, but also the slower pace of “weekly” courses.
After almost 50 years of loyal service, the Club Med years in Villars have come to an end. The former GMs, who love the beautiful countryside and our instructors :-), have joined our courses, much to their delight!
